GENBA
Under Construction
Genba is a Japanese word widely-used in lean manufacturing and in particular, the Toyota Flow System. GENBA refers to the place where value is created, and the “Genba Walk” invites people to stand back from their day-to-day task to observe what can be improved.
SenseMaker® Genba draws inspiration from this concept when developing our peer-to-peer journalling tool. Learn from others, and reflect on your own journey with a searchable database of your journal entries. If you’re in charge of a cohort, gain insights into how they’re feeling with pre-defined degrees of anonymity. It’s a much more sophisticated way of measuring impact and progress – just like Genba, you’ll be walking and understanding your system on the ground, with no intermediation.

Back of card summary
GENBA journalling is a method to capture real-time data without mediation, at the time and place that the relevant experience occurs. Genba is a Japanese word meaning “the place where value is created” and invites people to stand back from day-to-day routines and observe what can be improved. Whether it’s front-line employees, military patrols, nurses in a care home or agile end users, journaling reduces the risks of retrospective coherence, capturing rich data in real-time and enabling users to track trends over time. Peer-to-peer journaling tool allows users to learn from others as well as reflect on their own journey with a searchable database of entries, increasing descriptive self-awareness.
